Montana contains 287 federally managed campgrounds with approximately 2,915 overnight sites. The U.S. Forest Service operates the vast majority, managing 240 campgrounds across the state's national forests. The remaining facilities are distributed among the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (15 campgrounds), National Park Service (12), Bureau of Land Management (12), and Bureau of Reclamation (8). Of these 287 campgrounds, 238 offer online reservations through Recreation.gov, while others operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

This directory covers federal campgrounds only. State park campgrounds and private facilities such as KOA are not included here. For current site availability, detailed facility information, and to make reservations at eligible locations, visit Recreation.gov. Conditions and amenities vary widely depending on location and season, so advance planning is recommended for popular areas, particularly during summer months.
